RUSAL says launches 120,000-tn foundry at Boguchansky smelter
MOSCOW, Jun 18 (PRIME) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL has launched a 120,000-tonne 600 million ruble foundry unit at the Boguchansky aluminum smelter, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
“The new foundry by the Italian company Properzi will produce a qualitatively new product - high silicon aluminum alloy with increased strength, which is commonly used in the automotive industry for the manufacture of wheels, engine units and various spare parts. Demand for this product is strong in the markets such as Japan, Indonesia, Turkey, South Korea, Germany, and the U.S.,” the statement read.
The facility is fully automated and produces ingots by continuous casting eliminating formation of slag inflections or other defects that come with the traditional casting methods, the company said.
